Cancer Council SA
Iugo won a tender to redevelop the Cancer Council SA web presence.
The brief for the Cancer Council website was to extend upon one of CCSA’s primary roles – awareness & the provision of information.
Iugo & CCSA developed an information portal allowing users of the site to work through their individual needs of the site and find information pertinent to them. The user could be a cancer sufferer; they know someone with cancer; they want to reduce their likelihood of getting cancer along with other information. As they work through the series of questions/prompts; the user can learn by reading the unique content CCSA have developed.
Also on the new website is the improved methods of contacting CCSA; keeping up-to-date with information; interact with social media plus a host of other information.
Iugo’s role in the project was:
- develop the “smarts” behind the information portal
- implement a CMS (Recite CMS) to manage the website
- provide a great user experience (UX) as well as intuitive design
- provide support and training to site editors throughout the project
We’ve loved working with CCSA on this project along with Ride for a Reason and a number of other CCSA initiatives. We’re also very proud to provide in-kind donations to CCSA on every project we work on.
Cloud – Elders Real Estate
Elders Real Estate were requiring a new hosting environment after coming to the End Of Life (EOL) for their existing solution. This would normally mean significant capital expenditure in purchasing new servers; configuring along with potential for downtime and various other issues that often come with hosting using physical servers.
Iugo promoted the idea of using cloud-based hosting where Elders Real Estate could move their entire web presence into the Cloud; in particular Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Cloud brings new options and flexibility not previously available; such as:
- ability to scale up and down depending on usage
- separation of duties – ie website/database/image processing/file creation & so-on
- cost-effective storage solution for significant sets of data
- assets cached all around the world; meaning it’s fast for anyone in the world to access the Elders Real Estate website
- greater redundancy as more servers can be load balanced when required
The cost benefits were also significant with Return on Investment being in a very short timeframe due to:
- storage costs at around a tenth of what it would be with a more typical set up
- only pay for what you use – the infrastructure can be ramped up or down to suit needs
- bandwidth costs significantly cheaper
- less management required due to auto-scaling when required
Iugo made heavy use of AWS’s capabilities; using technologies such as:
- various EC2 instances (virtual machines) for serving the website as well as worker drones for image processing & so-on
- Simple Storage Service (S3) for housing of all assets
- CloudFront which mirrors those assets all around the world allowing for quick access to those files
- RDS – a fully managed database service which scales when required
- Simple Queue Service (SQS) which handles image & file processing in a managed format allowing for multiple worker drones to be active at any one time thus speeding up processing in heavy use periods
The end result has been a very positive one for Elders Real Estate. The site is fast to use; extremely cost-effective to set up and run and most importantly; the site has been rock-solid and is exceeding the Service Level Agreement (SLA).

Adelaide Fringe Festival
The Adelaide Fringe Festival is an arts institution for South Australia, particularly for it being the largest arts event in the Southern Hemisphere. Iugo was excited to be working with the crew to do the web development side for the 2012 and again for the coming 2013 festival.
The brief was to build something unique & flexible – something that would be able to be used throughout the year and also morph & adapt when it came time for the actual festival. Through much discussion and strategy, Iugo & the Fringe developed a system that is highly flexible and can be changed dramatically by the Fringe staff.
The other primary aim of the project was to better integrate with the ticketing system and to share information between the two environments in a seamless way. This has been accomplished using some pretty complex methods which results in a great user experience for users of the site.
As part of the 2013 site, Iugo & Fringe worked on developing a sophisticated mobile website to compliment the desktop version. Shows can be searched for; tickets can be purchased and favourites (interacting with Facebook) can be added & managed allowing users to browse and save their favourite shows across their devices.
Iugo is also very proud to be a support of the Adelaide Fringe for 2012 & 2013 with the provision of the Fringe Bus Tracker, a near real-time GPS tracking system of the 2 buses that travel the city in Fringe time; along with integration with Yelp in the 2013 site. More on this to come…

Hop Aboard mobile website
We at Iugo were very interested in developing a project all of our own. Something we can design, develop and launch which is Iugo’s and we can be proud of.
With the advent of Adelaide Metro releasing the timetable data to developers everywhere, and given we’re very much an Adelaided-based company and many of us use public transport considerably, we decided that’d be a perfect opportunity to showcase our skills in mobile development and release it to the general public free-of-charge. So over the past 4 months or so, we’ve storyboarded, designed and now developed Hop Aboard – a website designed specifically for the mobile browser.
It’s quick, it’s minimal and it gives you the information you need – when will the bus/train/tram be at your stop next and how long your journey to your destination will take. Try it out for yourself!
The features: Users can search for bus, train and tram routes throughout Adelaide; see the stops; create their own timetable based on their get on/get off stops and save them to their favourites for future use. Next time you open the website, the times for your favourite routes will appear and how long before they reach your get on stop!
The technology used: developed using Google’s GTFS data provided by Adelaide Metro; HTML5; CSS3; AJAX; JQuery; PHP; Sqlite & Smarty Tempate Engine. The HTML5 complies with web standards and as such, can be viewed on both mobile and desktop versions of browsers (some functions are limited depending on the browser).
The result: a customisable, fully-functioning Adelaide-based public transport timetable system that will work on mobile browsers such as Safari; Chrome; Opera and IE where users can quickly see timetables for a particular route and then favourite them for later viewing.
Business SA website
Business SA, formerly known as the South Australian Employer’s Chamber of Commerce & Industry, is the voice of business and industry in South Australia.
Being one of SA’s largest tender offers in late 2008, Iugo won the tender in conjunction with Clemenger BBDO in Adelaide. After 6 months of requirements gathering, near on a year to develop and we’re super-pleased with the outcome, as is the client more importantly.
With Business SA having such a diverse offering of services, products and catering to such a wide audience, structuring a new website to best be able to speak directly with its members was an enormous task.
Iugo and the team @ Business SA worked on how it could be constructed, what the strategy would be and came up with how it would come together.
A significant amount of custom work was done to cater to Business SA’s needs, particularly with the sharing of information with Business SA’s CRM, accounting package and chosen e-commerce gateway.
The end result is a new site with a very simple, yet powerful administration area to manage the content throughout. The CMS of choice was Recite CMS due to its ease of use, proven capabilities of handling large scale websites and flexibility to incorporate 3rd party integration.
Members and non-members can now book training courses online, get assistance with the latest Awards & Wages along with purchase their very useful publications online.
Adelaide Airport website
Adelaide Airport Limited (AAL) via Chris McArdle (19EightyNine) asked Iugo to implement a new content management system (CMS) for their website using the newly formed structure, strategy and design provided by 19EightyNine.
The collaborative effort resulted in Adelaide Airport having a new dynamic website built with the help of Recite CMS as the underlying technology/management system.
Some of the features implemented for the AAL site are:
- content management throughout the site
- full responsive design – it looks great on desktop/tablet/smartphone
- integration with the new carpark
- automatic importing of flight information data
- integration with currency converters / weather / webcams and so-on
There’s a number of features to come with further integration of internal systems and so-on.
Featured Video
As part of our sponsorship of Adelaide Fringe 2012, Iugo built a web-based live bus tracking version of Hop Aboard where Fringe-goers could see in real-time where the 2 Adelaide Fringe buses were on the 7-stop route. The web app was very well received and hope to use it on a number of new projects in the near future.
